Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus extended his congratulations to both Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) for their respective performances in the 13th parliamentary election.

In a message to Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today, Yunus expressed appreciation for the party’s active participation and peaceful acceptance of the election results.

“I sincerely thank you for the active and extensive participation of your party candidates under your leadership in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, for your firm contest, and for accepting the election results in a peaceful and dignified manner,” he said.

The Chief Adviser noted that from the campaign period through the post-election phase, Jamaat-e-Islami’s political courtesy, restraint, and calls for peaceful behavior contributed significantly to maintaining national stability.

He also acknowledged the support the party offered during the tenure of the interim government, describing it as “constructive support, advice and cooperation.”

Bangladesh, he said, is currently navigating challenges and opportunities in areas such as the global economy, technological transformation, climate change, human resource development, and social justice. In this context, he stressed the need for responsible and principled roles from both the government and the opposition to strengthen democracy and make it more participatory and institutionally consolidated.

“I expect that under your leadership, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will play an active role in the National Parliament and political arena as a constructive and responsible opposition force. We aspire that a healthy and positive political culture will develop in the areas of policy debate, advice in lawmaking, presenting public expectations and ensuring state accountability,” Dr Yunus added.

He also expressed confidence that the party will continue to contribute to national unity, emphasising that unity is the country’s strength. He concluded by praying to Almighty Allah for the party leader’s good health, long life, and overall well-being.

Meanwhile, in his message to Nahid Islam, convener of the NCP, the Chief Adviser congratulated the party on its “remarkable achievement” in its first national election. Contesting 30 seats and winning six, he said the performance reflects the party’s courage, determination, and confidence, and marks “a significant chapter in Bangladesh’s democratic history.”

He praised Nahid Islam’s leadership during the 2024 student–people uprising, describing his efforts as disciplined and goal-oriented, and lauded the sacrifices of the party’s activists. “I personally, and on behalf of the nation, express deep respect and gratitude to you all,” Dr Yunus said.

Recalling his time working with Nahid in the advisory council, the Chief Adviser highlighted the convener’s efficiency, principled firmness, and commitment to understanding administrative processes.

He highlighted the importance of new voices and ideas in strengthening democracy and added that the NCP’s success demonstrates that the youth are ready to trust principled, ideal-based politics.

Through parliamentary representation, he said, the NCP now has a historic opportunity to voice the aspirations of the people, particularly young voters. Dr Yunus expressed hope that under Nahid’s leadership, the party would continue to promote constructive, rational, and responsible political practice.

He concluded by wishing Nahid Islam good health, long life, and overall well-being.
