A mobile court seized 33,900 litres of illegally hoarded fuel from Abdul Ali Filling Station in Gazipur's Konabari on Monday night.

The station’s owner and manager were each sentenced to one month in jail, though their names were not disclosed.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan confirmed the operation, carried out around 10:00pm with support from BGB and police.

He said the station had displayed a “No fuel supply available” notice, but prior intelligence revealed stockpiling. Inspection confirmed the allegation, and the mobile court ordered immediate imprisonment.

The seized fuel will be sold, with proceeds deposited into the government treasury.

Meanwhile, around 9:00pm the same night, motorcyclists blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Maona Flyover in Sreepur, alleging shortages at Sterling Filling Station.

Police later confirmed the station had no petrol or octane in stock. The blockade ended at 9:35pm, and traffic returned to normal.
