Burglars targeted the Bagerhat house of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir late Monday night, stealing power supply cables from the three‑storey building in the town's Amlapara area.

The theft came to light this morning.

Police teams are working to identify the culprits and recover the stolen property. A local scrap dealer has been detained for questioning, amid suspicion that the stolen copper wires may have been sold at a nearby shop.

Family sources said heavy rainfall on Monday night caused a power outage, which the thieves exploited to breach the property’s boundary. Despite CCTV cameras installed around the perimeter, the perpetrators managed to evade surveillance and cut approximately two coils of copper wire running from the main line to the meter.

The stolen wiring is valued at around Tk 60,000.

Md Hasan Chowdhury, superintendent of police in Bagerhat, said multiple teams are investigating the incident.
