Surge in Covid cases: Delhi to impose weekend curfew

Star Digital Report

Delhi District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) today decided to impose weekend curfew in the Indian capital in view of the spike in Covid-19 cases.

No non-essential movement will be allowed during the weekend curfew, DDMA officials said.

It also decided that government officials barring essential services would work from home in Delhi, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

Delhi is already in the midst of curbs like shutdown of educational institutions, shopping malls and salons and more curbs on public transport, weddings and funerals.

Metro trains and buses can only operate at fifty percent of their capacity.

Delhi has reported a rising positivity rate (the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests) with 4,099 new cases in 24 hours on Monday. The positivity rate in Delhi is at 6.46 percent, the highest since May last.
