Daily Covid deaths, new cases increase

The numbers of deaths and new cases of Covid-19 have increased as the health directorate reported six deaths and 266 new cases yesterday.

The previous day, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported two deaths and 213 new cases of Covid-19 in the country.

With the latest figure, the total number of deaths reached 27,934 and the total cases to 1,573,214. The death rate was 1.78 percent.

Against a total of 19,670 tests, the positivity rate was 1.35 percent.

Of the deceased yesterday, two were male and four were female.

Two aged between 51 and 60 years while four were between 61 and 70.

In the last 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, a total of 257 Covid-19 patients have recovered from their illnesses, raising the total number of recovered patients to 1,537,224. The recovery rate was 97.71 percent.

On March 8 last year, the DGHS reported the first three cases of Covid-19 in the country.

Since then, the country witnessed two waves of coronavirus transmission.
