4th Omicron case detected in Bangladesh

Another case of Covid-19 Omicron variant infection has been identified in the country today.

With this, the total number of confirmed Omicron variant cases in the country rose to four.

The new infection was detected in a 33-year-old female from Dhaka's Basabo area, according to the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID) -- a Germany based web database.

According to the GISAID, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) collected the nasopharyngeal swab from the patient through systematic genomic surveillance.

Yesterday, GISAID published the third case of Omicron on its website, which was also detected through active surveillance.

Earlier on December 9, two cricketers of the Bangladesh Women Cricket team were tested positive for Omicron, after they returned from the Zimbabwe cricket tour.
