‘Prince’ set for Italy release after Eid run
“Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka”, starring Shakib Khan, is set to release in Italy, becoming the latest among this year’s Eid films to reach international audiences.
The film will be screened on April 18 and 20 in Venice and Rome, with advance ticket bookings already underway, according to production house Creative Land Films.
Producers said the Italy release will feature an updated version of the film, addressing several technical issues that had drawn criticism during its domestic run. They expressed hope that international audiences will experience a more refined presentation.
Released during Eid-ul-Fitr, the film struggled to meet expectations in Bangladesh, with viewers raising concerns over sound design, colour grading, visual effects and narrative consistency. Some also alleged that the film was released before post-production was fully completed.
The film faced further setbacks due to technical faults, missing screenings at Star Cineplex during its first four days and failing to screen in nearly 50 single-screen theatres on opening day. The situation led to unrest in some cinema halls. Actor Shakib Khan later apologised on behalf of the team during a special screening.
Directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud, the film follows the story of a gangster in 1990s Dhaka, portrayed by Shakib Khan.
The cast also includes Tasnia Farin, Jyotirmoyee Kundu, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Intekhab Dinar and others.
With its international release, industry observers will be watching closely to see how the film performs with overseas audiences.
