Star Cineplex launches new branch in Narayanganj
Star Cineplex is continuing its expansion across Bangladesh, launching new branches in cities beyond the capital, Dhaka.
As part of this expansion, the company had initially planned to open its Narayanganj branch during Eid-ul-Fitr. However, the launch was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances, prompting the authorities to apologise to eager moviegoers who had been waiting for the opening.
The wait is now set to end, as the Narayanganj branch will officially begin operations tomorrow (April 7). Initially, the multiplex will run on a limited scale with two daily shows—one in the afternoon and another in the evening. Full-fledged operations, including all scheduled shows, are expected to commence within a few days.
Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, AGM of the company’s Media and Marketing Department, said the delay was unfortunate but necessary. “We sincerely apologise to the audience of Narayanganj for not being able to open the branch as scheduled. Many viewers had been waiting for it. Now, that wait is finally coming to an end. We are delighted to fulfill the long-standing expectation of the people of Narayanganj. Due to some limitations, we are starting with two shows, but all shows will be fully operational within a few days,” he said.
Located at Shimanto Tower in Jalkuri, the new multiplex features three auditoriums—two with 178 seats each and one with 75 seats. Like its other outlets, the Narayanganj branch offers a modern cinematic environment, equipped with advanced sound systems, giant screens, and world-class facilities.
Highlighting the company’s expansion strategy, Mesbah Uddin Ahmed said quality cinema halls are essential for the growth of the film industry. “Audience preferences have evolved. They now seek a comfortable environment and security. High-quality screens and sound systems enhance the viewing experience. We have prioritised these aspects from the beginning.
Encouraged by audience support, we are moving forward and preparing to launch several more branches within this year. After major cities, we plan to gradually expand to district and upazila levels as well,” he added.
Currently, Star Cineplex operates multiple branches in Dhaka, including Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Shimanto Shambhar (formerly Rifles Square), SKS Tower, Bangladesh Military Museum, and Mirpur 1, as well as a branch in Chattogram’s Bali Arcade.
Construction of additional branches is underway in several cities, including Bogura, with plans to expand further across Dhaka and other regions within the year.
