Both BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and Awami League MP Haji Salim are convicts. Both needed treatment abroad. Even though family members of Khaleda Zia have asked the law minister and government repeatedly to take her abroad for medical treatment, they were denied by the authorities. Yet Haji Salim, who's been convicted for 10 years over corruption, has returned home after receiving medical treatment in Bangkok, Thailand. There has been soaring criticism in the national media regarding the treatment by the government in regard to the two convicts.
