New Market clashes: Who are these 'helmet bahini'?

Those who assaulted and stabbed Nahid Mia in a student-businessman conflict in the capital's New Market-Dhaka College area on April 19, have been revealed. So far, all of the suspects of the murder have been identified as Dhaka College students involved in Chhatra League politics.

In recent violence, the "helmet force" got the limelight again. They first appeared in 2016 as part of the Road Safety Movement. That time the "helmet bahini" attacked and injured many students and journalists.

Who are these helmet forces, and what do they do? Why are so many young people, particularly students, becoming so ruthless?
