Bangladesh turn to Emon for Indonesia test
Bangladesh have made one change to their starting XI for their final Group A fixture against Indonesia at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium today, with Shahriar Emon replacing Shekh Morsalin in attack.
Already eliminated from the competition following consecutive defeats to Malaysia (3-0) and Singapore (1-0), Bangladesh will line up in a 4-4-1-1 formation as they look to end their campaign on a positive note.
Emon’s inclusion gives Bangladesh a more direct option up front, but he faces a stern test against an Indonesia defence featuring Kevin Diks and Elkan Baggott. Diks, who can operate at right-back, plays for Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, while centre-back Baggott is with EFL Championship club Millwall.
Indonesia, meanwhile, have plenty at stake. Malaysia currently sit top of Group A with four points and a goal difference of +3, meaning the hosts will be looking to put pressure on their rivals by scoring as many goals as possible.
Indonesia will deploy a 5-4-1 formation, with Diks and Baggott among the players expected to marshal the backline. Behind Emon, captain Jamal Bhuyan, Hamza Choudhury and Shuki Itofusa will have the task of disrupting the hosts’ rhythm and creating opportunities for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh XI: Mehedi Hasan Srabon (GK), Zidane Yousuf, Tariq Kazi, Zayan Ahmed, Saad Uddin, Jamal Bhuyan (C), Hamza Choudhury, Shuki Itofusa, Rakib Hossain, Shamit Shome, Mohammed Shahriar Emon.
Indonesia XI: Emil Audero (GK), Rizky Ridho, Elkan Baggott, Justin Hubner, Kevin Diks (C), Calvin Verdonk, Joey Pelupessy, Ivar Jenner, Ole Romeny, Ragnar Oratmangoen, Mitchell Lee Baker.
