IUB student killed in motorcycle crash on way to watch football match in Old Dhaka
An Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) student was killed and a pedestrian injured in a motorcycle accident in Dhaka's Fakirapool area late last night while the student was on his way to watch a football match in Old Dhaka.
The deceased was identified as Arafat Rahman Shawon, 23, a resident of Nishat Nagar in Tongi, Gazipur, said Inspector Md Farouk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.
The accident occurred around 11:00pm in front of Rahmania Hotel in Fakirapool.
According to Alif, a friend who was riding with Shawon, the two were travelling by motorcycle from Mirertek in Madhubagh to Wari in Old Dhaka to watch a football match. Shawon was driving the motorcycle.
When they reached Fakirapool, a pedestrian crossing the road collided with the motorcycle, causing the rider and passenger to fall onto the road, Alif said.
Shawon and Shahjahan suffered serious injuries and were rushed to DMCH, where doctors declared Shawon dead around midnight. Alif escaped unhurt.
Inspector Farouk said Shawon's body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
He added that Motijheel Police Station has been informed and is investigating the incident. Shahjahan is receiving treatment at the hospital's emergency department.
