An assistant judge was killed, and his driver was seriously injured after their car rammed into a parked truck on the Jamalpur-Mymensingh highway early today.

The deceased, AKM Samiul Haque, 27, from Satpai Chhetgara village in Netrokona Sadar upazila, was serving as an assistant judge at Islampur under the Jamalpur Judge Court.

The injured driver, Idris Ali, 44, is undergoing treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital.

Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmus Sakib told The Daily Star that Samiul was returning to Jamalpur from Dhaka's Lalmatia when the accident occurred around 4:30am in the Lahirikanda area of Jamalpur Sadar.

The car rammed into the rear of a stationary truck loaded with rods, killing Samiul on the spot and seriously injuring Idris, he said.

The OC said one of the truck's tyres had gone flat, prompting the driver and his helper to stop the vehicle on the highway and sleep inside it.
