Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the casualties caused by a train-bus collision in Cumilla, as well as other accidents in Habiganj and other districts.

“The prime minister conveyed profound condolences over the loss of lives in the collision between a train and a bus at a railway crossing in Cumilla,” Prime Minister's Press Secretary Saleh Shibly told BSS.

At least 12 people were killed after a mail train hit a bus at a level crossing in Cumilla early today.

Following a recent train accident in Bogura, the premier instructed authorities to immediately determine the causes behind the incident.

He held discussions with ministry officials and local administration, directing them to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and financial assistance for the families of the deceased.

Three committees have been formed to investigate the Cumilla accident -- two by railway authorities and one by the district administration. All have been asked to submit reports within 72 hours.

Action has already been taken against several individuals for negligence, with further steps to follow based on findings.

The prime minister also directed authorities to provide treatment and support for victims of road accidents in Feni, Habiganj, Jamalpur, and other areas.

He described the incidents as extremely painful and concerning at a time of joyous celebration of Eid, adding, “Every life is valuable, and every death is an irreparable loss.”

Tarique prayed for the deceased, wished a speedy recovery for the injured, and emphasised the government's committment to ensuring safe and uninterrupted movement of people.

He instructed ministries to identify weaknesses in railway crossing management, bridge safety, and the overall transport system, and to take urgent measures to address them.
