JnU student found dead in Old Dhaka mess

The body of a Jagannath University student was recovered from a mess in Bhati Khana area of Old Dhaka on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Akash Sarkar, a student of the Department of Theatre at Jagannath University. He was from Faridpur district.

Ishtiaq, a housemate, told reporters that around 9:00pm Akash’s girlfriend phoned him, saying she could not reach Akash over the phone. “After the call, I found Akash’s room locked from inside. As I did not get any response despite repeated calls, I broke the door open and saw his body hanging from the ceiling. Then, I immediately called the police,” he said.

Nazmul Hasan, inspector (investigation) of Gandaria Police Station, said that upon receiving the information, police recovered the body around 9:30pm and later sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy.

The police official said they initially suspected the incident to be a suicide.
