A Dhaka court today rejected a bail petition for journalist Anis Alamgir in an anti-terrorism case.

Judge Md Alamgir of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court-1 of Dhaka passed the order after hearing the petition, said defence lawyer Taslima Zahan Popy.

On December 14 last year, Anis was picked up from a gym in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi and taken to the Detective Branch office on Minto Road.

The following day, Arian Ahmed, a central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, filed a case with Uttara West Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, accusing Anis along with actress Meher Afroz Shaon, Maria Kispotta, and Imtu Ratish.

That same day, Anis was produced before the court with a seven-day remand prayer and was placed on a five-day remand.

Anis has previously worked at several media outlets, both print and electronic, and was known for his active presence on television talk shows before his arrest.
