Twenty-three individuals admitted yesterday morning with alleged election violence-related injuries were discharged almost immediately after local MP Sarwar Jamal Nizam concluded his official visit at the Anwara Upazila Health Complex.

Local sources confirmed that Sarwar, MP from Chattogram‑13 (Anwara‑Karnaphuli) and a member of the BNP central executive committee, arrived at the facility around 12:30 pm on Monday.

Shortly before his arrival, 23 individuals checked in, claiming injuries from clashes during the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Many were seen with fresh bandages, hospital staff said.

However, as soon as the MP left at around 1:00 pm, all 23 checked out within minutes.

The influx, on the other hand, caused distress to patients at the health complex.

Two patients present at the time -- Mohammad Alamgir, Mohammad Hossain -- alleged that they were forced out of their beds to make room for the newcomers, waiting in corridors until the MP’s entourage departed.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Dr Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, however, denied negligence.

He said the group was admitted for “follow‑up” treatment and placed together for easier management, while other patients were moved to vacant beds elsewhere.

He added that the 23 were discharged only after they claimed to feel better.

Attempts to reach MP Sarwar for comments were unsuccessful.
