The government yesterday announced nine individuals and, for the first time, a rock band as recipients of the Ekushey Padak 2026, the country’s second-highest civilian honour, recognising contributions across film, fine arts, architecture, music, dance, theatre, journalism, education and sculpture.

In a Facebook post, the actor said he had agreed to the project believing it to be a socially driven initiative. According to him, the advertisement was presented as a social complaint–receiving app aimed at empowering citizens. “I had agreed to act in an advertisement for a social complaint–receiving app, which was meant to be a platform for people to report injustice, corruption, extortion and harassment,” he wrote.

Chondona also shared a personal insight into her late husband’s deepest artistic pride. “My personal feeling is that Ayub Bachchu would have been happier if his band LRB had received the award,” she said.

In the cultural arena, veteran actress Farida Akhtar Babita, legendary late musician Ayub Bachchu, folk singer Islam Uddin Palakar, and pioneering rock band Warfaze have been selected for the prestigious award.
