‘Sakin Sarisuri’ set reunion sparks nostalgia

A chance meeting brought back a wave of nostalgia for fans of the iconic TV serial “Sakin Sarisuri”, as actors Mosharraf Karim and Chanchal Chowdhury unexpectedly crossed paths at the show’s original filming location.

The memorable encounter took place on Monday in Vadhuner Chater Aga, Pubail, Gazipur, where Chanchal Chowdhury was shooting the drama “Bishwas Banam Sardar”, directed by Shakal Ahmed. The village holds special significance as it was the primary shooting location of “Sakin Sarisuri”, filmed in late 2008.

During a break from shooting, Chanchal—fondly remembered as the “Japan Doctor” from “Sakin Sarisuri”—noticed Mosharraf Karim, who played the beloved character Ruiton, walking along a rural path. The two actors greeted each other warmly, embracing and spending time reminiscing about old days and shared experiences.

Chanchal later shared a photo from the reunion on social media, writing about the village’s deep emotional value and the many memories tied to it. He reflected on colleagues who were part of the journey, recalling names such as Lavlu Bhai, Brindabon Da, Shahnaz Khushi, A K M Hasan, Rawnak, and others—while also noting, with sadness, those who are no longer alive.

After the serial aired, Vadhuner Chater Aga village became popularly known as “Sakin Sarisuri” village among locals. A few years ago, Mosharraf Karim even bought land there and built a house. Although based in Dhaka, he often visits the village during holidays.

Director Shakal Ahmed confirmed that the current shoot was taking place near Mosharraf Karim’s home, which led to the unexpected meeting between the two stars.

Written by Brindabon Das and directed by Salahuddin Lavlu, “Sakin Sarisuri” aired on Channel i between 2009 and 2010 and remains available on YouTube. Alongside Mosharraf Karim and Chanchal Chowdhury, the cast included Nazmul Huda Bachchu, Masum Aziz, Mamunur Rashid, Azizul Hakim, Shahnaz Khushi, and Rawnak Hasan, among others.
