New OTT platform Doel launches with focus on culture and education

A new OTT platform, Doel, has entered Bangladesh’s digital entertainment landscape, positioning itself as a culture-driven platform focused on educational, socially conscious and heritage-based content.

The platform announced that its programming will prioritise education, social awareness, children’s content and the folk traditions of Bengal, with the aim of promoting Bangladeshi culture to a global audience.

Doel was formally launched at an inauguration ceremony held on Monday evening at a five-star hotel in the capital, attended by a large number of cultural figures and artistes.
Among those present were illusionist Jewel Aich, agriculturalist Shykh Seraj, cultural activist Mofidul Haque, singers Abida Sultana, Rafiqul Alam, Khurshid Alam, Khairul Anam Shakil, Kalpana Anam, Rizia Parveen and Nasim Ali Khan, lyricist Shahid Mahmud Jangi, composer Sheikh Sadi Khan, playwright Masum Reza, musician Fuad Naser Babu, Madhumita Movies managing director Iftekhar Uddin Naushad, and Bangladesh Chalachitra Shilpi Samiti president Kamrul Hasan Darpan, among others.

The programme opened with a rendition of “Jiboner Shesh Gaan”, written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar, performed by veteran singer Sabina Yasmin.

Delivering the inaugural address, Doel managing director Sheikh Jahin Ahmed said the platform aims to combine entertainment with education and social awareness. “By focusing on children, young people and Bengal’s cultural heritage, we hope to contribute meaningfully to the OTT space,” he said.

Chief executive officer Fahmidul Islam Shantanu later spoke about the platform’s vision, content approach and founding journey. The evening also featured a magic performance by Jewel Aich and a group presentation by young artistes.

The inauguration concluded with remarks from Doel chairman Sheikh Raihan Ahmed, who wished the platform success in its journey ahead.
