Shooting begins for Robiul Alam Robi’s debut feature film 'Suraiya'
Shooting has officially begun for director Robiul Alam Robi’s first full-length feature film, “Suraiya”. After gaining recognition on OTT platforms, the acclaimed filmmaker is now set to make his big-screen debut with the project.
The film brings together a strong ensemble cast, including Shamol Mawla, Nazifa Tushi, Nasir Uddin Khan, Intekhab Dinar, Dilara Zaman, Ashok Bepari, and Rafayatullah Sohan.
Robi previously made his mark in the OTT space with the web series “Unoloukik” and web films “Cafe Desire” and “Forget Me Not” for Chorki. “Suraiya” marks his first feature-length project designed specifically for theatrical release. The film is based on the short story “Suraiya” by Shibabrata Barman, who has co-written the screenplay alongside the director.
The film is produced by Fazle Hasan Shishir under the banner of Ratherhood Initiatives Ltd, in collaboration with German production company Niko Film Productions. Even during its production phase, “Suraiya” has garnered notable attention internationally. It has received the National Film Grant from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of Bangladesh, and secured the prestigious “World Cinema Fund” from the Berlin International Film Festival. The project was also selected for the “Asian Project Market” (APM) at the Busan International Film Festival.
Producer Fazle Hasan Shishir said the shooting of this romantic drama—blending the harsh realities of urban life with a deeply human narrative—will continue over the coming weeks. The team plans a commercial release in local theatres following screenings at several major international film festivals.
