Bangladeshi filmmaker Rezwan Shahriar Sumit’s political drama “Master” has won the Best Screenplay award at the Belgrade International Film Festival (FEST), adding to the film’s growing list of international honours.

The screenplay, co-written by Sumit and Sabbir Hossain Shovon, received the award in the festival’s World Competition section. The win follows the film’s earlier success at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), where it claimed the Big Screen Award, and at Italy’s Lucca Film Festival, where it won Best Feature Film.

The film follows Jahir, a respected teacher who enters local politics with idealistic intentions but gradually compromises his principles as he confronts the pressures of power. Through its portrayal of political influence and moral decline, “Master” explores how personal convictions can erode within a system shaped by competing interests.

The film stars Nasir Uddin Khan as Jahir, alongside Azmeri Haque Badhon, Zakia Bari Mamo, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Sharif Siraj and Tasnova Tamanna. Sumit previously directed “The Salt in Our Waters” (“Nonajoler Kabbo”), which won seven Bangladesh National Film Awards.
