Actor Rumana Islam Mukti has announced her candidacy for the post of general secretary in the upcoming election of the Bangladesh Chalachitra Shilpi Samity (Bangladesh Film Artistes Association), positioning her campaign around welfare and institutional reform.

Currently a member of the association’s executive committee, Mukti said her decision is shaped both by professional experience and a personal commitment to fulfil the wishes of her mother, veteran actor Anwara Begum.

“During her lifetime, my mother served on the association’s committee and wanted to see me as general secretary,” Mukti said. “She wished that I would work for the welfare of artistes. I am contesting to fulfil that wish and to contribute meaningfully to the community.”

She added that her priorities include revitalising the association and bringing disengaged members back into its activities. “I want to make the association more active and take effective initiatives for its members. I also want to reconnect those who have drifted away,” she said.

Reflecting on her tenure in the current committee, Mukti noted that she has been involved in several initiatives over the past year and a half. She identified the commemorative programme “Smritir Ayanay Kingbodontir Drishyo”, organised in memory of late artistes, as a key achievement.

The tenure of the current committee is set to end on April 24. According to the organisation’s constitution, the next election is expected to take place between late July and early August.
