REHAB elects new leadership for 2026-28 term
Preliminary results for the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) election were released yesterday. Md Ali Afzal, chairman of Glorious Lands and Developments, was elected president for the 2026-28 term.
Afzal secured 232 votes, surpassing incumbent president Md Wahiduzzaman, managing director of Japan Garden City, who received 193 votes.
President candidates Mukkaram Hosain Khan and Md Abul Khair Salim trailed with 90 and 12 votes, respectively.
Abdur Razzaque was elected senior vice-president with 216 votes, narrowly ahead of Liakat Ali Bhuiyan's 214. Abdul Latif finished third with 97 votes.
Mohammed Akter Biswas won the vice-president (VP-1) post with 250 votes. Md Sheikh Shadi and AM Mohib Uddin followed with 166 and 111 votes, respectively.
Abu Khalid Md Barkatullah claimed vice-president (VP-2) with 255 votes, ahead of Md Jahangir Alam's 197. AFM Ubaidullah secured vice-president (VP-3) with 234 votes.
Md Harunur Rashid won the vice-president (finance) post with 262 votes, the widest margin among all executive positions. His nearest rival, Sheikh Md Shoyeb Uddin, received 180 votes.
In the Chattogram slot, Mohammad Morshedul Hasan took the vice-president post with 317 votes, defeating Nur Uddin Ahamed, who secured 211 votes.
In the Dhaka directors' race, Md Labib Billah topped the field with 338 votes. Umme Jahan Arju and Habibur Rahman Habib followed jointly in second and third with 304 votes each.
A total of 20 directors were elected, including Md Emdadul Hussain Shohel, N Zoha, and Md Faruk Ahmad in the top 10.
Of 673 registered voters across Dhaka and Chattogram, 570 cast ballots. Among them, 512 were from Dhaka and 58 from Chattogram.
Results remain preliminary, pending formal confirmation.
REHAB, the apex body of private real estate developers in Bangladesh, holds biennial elections to select leadership responsible for policy advocacy and industry coordination.
