Banks’ five-day Durga Puja closure begins Oct 20
Banks will remain closed for three consecutive days, from October 20 to October 22, on the occasion of Durga Puja, which is set to begin next Friday.
With the closure, bankers will enjoy a five-day holiday to mark Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Hindus.
However, banks will remain open on Saturday, October 17, following their normal working schedules to help customers manage their financial transactions ahead of the long break, the Bangladesh Bank (BB) said in a circular today.
The central bank issued the directive after the Public Administration Ministry declared October 22 a public holiday.
However, branches of banks in port areas will maintain limited operations to support import and export activities throughout the holidays and the weekend, from October 20 to October 24, the BB said, asking banks to coordinate with local administrations and customs authorities to ensure smooth services.
