Bangladesh beat Kazakhstan to get their first win

The Bangladesh U-21 hockey team secured its maiden victory in the Men's Junior Asia Cup on Tuesday, handing Kazakhstan a 4-2 defeat in their third pool match in Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia, China.

Bouncing back from successive defeats to China (3-2) and Malaysia (4-2), Bangladesh started strong. The team took an early lead in the third minute when Shimul Islam successfully converted a penalty corner.

The advantage, however, was short-lived. Just four minutes later, Kazakhstan equalized when Yerali Kairatuly found the board from open play in the seventh minute.

Bangladesh reclaimed the lead in the second quarter courtesy of a field goal by Mehedi Hasan. The men in red and green then tightened their grip on the match in the 33rd minute, pushing winless Kazakhstan further behind with another field goal from Tayeb Ali.

Refusing to go down quietly, Kazakhstan showed their resilience and reduced the deficit. Arsen Zhanat scored from open play in the 36th minute, keeping the pressure on Bangladesh.

Ultimately, Bangladesh sealed the win in the fourth and final quarter. Munna Islam converted a penalty in the 50th minute, wrapping up the 4-2 victory and putting the game firmly out of reach.

Bangladesh will face Pakistan tomorrow in their final group-stage match before heading into the place-deciding matches to decide their final tournament position.
