Bangladesh finished their AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-0 defeat against the Philippines in Samarkand on Sunday, ending their hopes of reaching the final round of the continental competition.

Saiful Bari Titu’s charges needed a win against the Philippines, who had beaten Uzbekistan 4-0 in their opening Group H match. Bangladesh, meanwhile, had edged past hosts Uzbekistan 2-1 but went into Sunday’s match trailing the Philippines on goal difference.

Bangladesh kept the Philippines at bay until late in the match but conceded goals in the 73rd, 90th and 91st minutes to suffer a heavy defeat.

Only the winners of the eight groups will qualify for next year’s final round, meaning the Philippines secured their place in the tournament in China.
