No gold this time either as Pakistan knock out Tigers

Star Sports Report

Bangladesh's wait for another Asian Games cricket gold medal will extend after Pakistan beat them by six wickets with nine balls to spare in the semi-final in Nisshin on Thursday.

The Tigers, who last won gold at the 2010 Asian Games, were restricted to 111-7 after Pakistan elected to field in a 13-over-a-side contest as wet outfield delayed start of play at the Korogi Athletic Park Stadium.

Towhid Hridoy top-scored with 42 off 25 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes, but Bangladesh slipped to 45-4 before Hridoy and Mosaddek Hossain (11) steadied the innings. Sufyan Moqim took 3-26 and Arafat Minhas 2-23.

Pakistan also stumbled to 53-4, but Hasan Nawaz (27 not out) and Abdul Samad (30 not out off 15) combined for an unbeaten 59-run stand to take their side to 112-4 in 11.3 overs.

Rishad Hossain was Bangladesh's most economical bowler, taking 1-12 from 2.3 overs, while Mahedi Hasan claimed 1-17. Mustafizur Rahman, however, conceded 41 from two overs.

Pakistan will face either world champions India or Sri Lanka, who clash later today, for the gold medal on Saturday.

Bangladesh will play the loser of the other semifinal for the bronze medal, also on Saturday.
