Faridpur native dies after being hit by speeding vehicle while on duty

A Bangladeshi expatriate was killed in a road accident in Malaysia today.

The deceased was identified as Md Belayet Sheikh, 35.

Belayet, a resident of Choukighata village under Gharua union of Bhanga upazila in Faridpur, was working as a road cleaner when he was run over by a speeding vehicle around 5:00 am (Bangladesh time).

He died on the spot, family members said.

Belayet was the eldest of three brothers, and father of two daughters. His younger brother, Jhilu Sheikh, 30, said Belayet had gone to Malaysia three years ago seeking better livelihood.

The family learned of the accident around 9:00 am from another Bangladeshi expatriate from a neighbouring village.

Confirming the incident, Abdul Alim, officer‑in‑charge of Bhanga Police Station, said he was informed by a local chowkidar. He added that the administration would contact the Bangladesh embassy in Malaysia to take steps to bring the body back home.
