Two persons, including a female madrasa student, were killed and three others injured when a truck rammed into a parked CNG-run auto-rickshaw from behind on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Mirsarai upazila this morning.

The incident occurred around 9:45am in front of Zahedia Madrasa near Boro Takia Bazar on the highway.

One of the deceased was identified as Khadija Mashmum, 15, a class 10 student of Boro Takia Zahedia Dakhil Madrasa, said police, as they failed to identify the other deceased, a man aged between 35 and 40.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zakaria of Jorarganj Highway Police said two of the injured were sisters of the deceased student, and the other injured was the auto-rickshaw driver.

The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in critical condition.

All the deceased and injured were the passengers of the auto-rickshaw.

The OC said a speeding truck lost control and rammed into the rear of a parked CNG-run auto-rickshaw in front of the madrasa. The truck and the auto-rickshaw then plunged into a roadside ditch, killing two people on the spot and injuring three others, the police official said.

The accident triggered traffic congestion on the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway for an hour.

Members of the Fire Service, with the help of locals, pulled out the dead bodies and injured passengers from the auto-rickshaw, Hayatun Nabi, team leader of Mirsarai Fire Station, said adding that the injured were taken to CMCH.
