Three of a family burnt in Ashulia gas cylinder blast
A couple and their five-year-old daughter suffered severe burn injuries following a gas cylinder explosion caused by a leakage in Ashulia early today.
The victims have been identified as Jahangir Mia, 40, his wife Beauty Begum, 35, and their daughter, Tanha, 5.
The incident occurred around 6:00am on the ground-floor of a two-storey building in Durgapur Chalabazar area, said Noor Alom Siddique, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station.
Jahangir worked at a pharmaceutical factory, while Beauty was employed at a leather goods factory.
According to Habib Mia, a neighbour, the family lived in a rented ground-floor apartment of a three-storey building.
The LPG cylinder, which was used for cooking, leaked and caused the explosion.
Locals rescued them and took them to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka from where they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
Earlier on February 14, eleven members of a family were burnt in a gas explosion while cooking in the Gumail area of Ashulia. Three of them died later, while the rest are still undergoing treatment at DMCH.
