Mother, two children die after being run over by train in Gazipur

Police are investigating whether the incident was a suicide or an accident

A mother and her two children died after being run over by a train in the Bazar Gate area of Pubail railway station in Gazipur.

The incident took place around 10:45am this morning.

The deceased were identified as Hafeza Khatun, 35, her daughter, Tabassum, 8, and son Maruf, 5.

Eyewitnesses said that Hafeza lived with her children at her in-laws' house.

It was learned that Hafeza and her husband had an argument this morning. She dressed her daughter in uniform and left home for school. Around 10:45am, she went to the outer signal area east of Pubail Bazar rail gate and jumped under the Brahmanabaria-bound Titas Commuter train with her children. All three died on the spot.

Pubail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman told The Daily Star, "Whether the incident was a suicide or an accident has not yet been confirmed. The matter is being investigated."

Railway Police Officer at Narsingdi Railway Station, Mohammad Nazim Uddin, told The Daily Star, "Three bodies have been recovered. Details will be given later."

Station Master of Narsingdi Railway Station Zahidul Islam told The Daily Star that police arrived at the spot as soon as the information was received, and necessary measures are being taken to maintain regular train services.
