Fire breaks out near Tongi Bazar in Gazipur

A fire broke out in shops and houses near Tongi Bazar in Gazipur late Thursday night.
 

Eight units of the Fire Service are working to bring the blaze under control.
 

The fire reportedly started around 11:37pm. Upon receiving the information, firefighters swiftly rushed to the scene and commenced efforts to contain the fire.
 

Saiful Islam, duty officer of Tongi Fire Service, told The Daily Star that they received the report of the fire at 11:37pm. Within minutes, four units from Tongi Fire Station were dispatched to the scene to control the blaze.
 

He further said that two more units from Uttara Fire Station and two additional units from Kurmitola Fire Station subsequently joined the operation. In total, eight units were working to control the fire.
 

No casualties have been reported so far. However, firefighters are making additional efforts to ensure that the flames do not spread to nearby Tongi Bazar area.
 

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be immediately ascertained.
