5 children killed in Jamalpur bridge collapse

Five children were killed after a floating bridge collapsed in Dewanganj upazila, Jamalpur on March 21, on the day of Eid.

The deceased were identified as Maya Moni, 10; Abir Hossain, 8; Khadija Akter, 12; Motaleb Hossain, 6; and Mrihad, 8.

The incident occurred in front of Dewanganj Police Station, where hundreds gathered on the bridge, which continued to attract locals despite being deemed unsafe.

Witnesses said the bridge gave way under excessive pressure, throwing over a hundred people into the river. While many managed to swim ashore, several children were swept away.

Dewanganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mansur confirmed the incident.
