JU employees protest assault on colleague
Employees at Jahangirnagar University demonstrated on the campus yesterday demanding punishment of some students who allegedly assaulted one of their colleagues.
The agitators, under the banner of JU Employees' Union and JU Employees' Association, brought out a protest procession and staged a two-hour long sit-in in front of the administrative building.
They left the place on assurance of the Vice Chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain that he would look into the matter of alleged assault on Aheteshamul Haqe, a staff of Biology faculty.
Meanwhile, students of the environment science department brought out a silent procession demanding punishment of Aheteshamul for harassing one of their teachers. They also submitted a memorandum to the vice chancellor.
Sources said some students of the department assaulted Aheteshamul, as he was engaged in unwanted arguments with a lecturer of the department.
A five-member probe committee was formed to investigate the incident. The report will be submitted in seven days.
