BNP leader gets bail

A Chittagong court yesterday granted ad-interim bail to Shahadat Hossain, general secretary of Chittagong city unit BNP, in connection with a case filed against him for torching vehicles on May 13. The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abdur Rahman granted the bail after Shahadat surrendered to the court, said the plaintiff's lawyer Advocate kamrul Islam Sajjad. On May 13, at least 100 people, including police and journalists, were injured during a spate of clashes between BNP-Jamaat activists and law enforcers in Kazir Dewry area in Chittagong. Shahadat was accused in the case among total six cases that were filed against over 2,000 leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance in this connection.
