Defeated UP member candidate jailed
A mobile court here on Saturday midnight convicted a defeated UP member candidate and sentenced him to two years imprisonment for trying to loot ballot papers and torturing election officials.
The convict was identified as Delwar Khan, a UP member candidate of Kholahati union in Sadar upazila.
Police said after the announcement of the results, Delwar Khan along with his supporters attacked and tortured presiding officer Shahidul Islam and other election officials at West Komornoi Government Primary School centre and tried to loot the ballot box and papers.
Police rushed to the spot, rescued the officials and arrested Delwar from the spot.
Later, senior judicial magistrate of the court Azizur Rahman pronounced the verdict.
