Pre- and post-UP poll violence in Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Lalmonirhat and Takurgaon districts left over 80 people injured yesterday and the day before. Our staff correspondent from Sylhet reported that at least 40 people were injured in a post-poll clash at Shahpur village under Baniachang upazila of Habiganj district yesterday. Police said the supporters of elected member Ataur Rahman and defeated member candidate Abdul Mannan clashed at around 11:00am yesterday. On information, police and chairman-elect Yahiya Chowdhury reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Of the injured, 21 including defeated member candidate Abdul Mannan were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital while the rest given first aid. Police have been deployed at the village to avert further clash. No case was filed with the concerned police station as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday. In Thakurgaon, post-poll violence left three people injured at Velai and Malivita village in Ratore Union under Ranishankoil upazila on Friday, reports our correspondent. Police and local people said the supporters of defeated chairman candidate Fazlul Haque attacked Prema Roy's house at Velai village, saying that he and his family members did not vote for Fazlul Haque. At one stage, one of the attackers stabbed Prema's wife Purnima Rani, 28, in the abdomen, leaving her critically injured. She was admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital and then shifted to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital as her condition deteriorated. In another incident, Uttam Roy, 25, and Prohalad Roy, 34, came under attack by the supporters of a defeated member candidate at Malivita village in the same union. According to our B'baria correspondent, the supporters of two member candidates in the election to Talshahar Union Parishid (UP) under Ashuganj upazila clashed on Friday, leaving at least 26 people from both sides injured. Locals said the supporters of Samsul Alam and Humayun Mia locked in the clash following an altercation. On information, police from Ashuganj rushed to the spot, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control. Of the inured, nine were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital while the rest given first aid at a clinic at Ashuganj. Our Lalmonirhat correspondent adds: At least 14 people, including two women, were injured in a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates of Velalbari Union Parishad at Velabari village in Aditmari upazila on Friday. The injured were admitted to Aditmari Upazila Health Complex and Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital. Of them, condition of Sayedul islam, 52, Ashraful Islam,48, Kashem Ali,35, Laden Islam,30, Ashma Begum,45, and Mofia Begum, 32, was stated to be critical. Local said, the clash ensued following an altercation over electioneering at Velabari village at around 9:00pm.
