Highway blocked demanding smooth power supply
Road communication on Dhaka-Chittagong highway remained suspended for an hour yesterday morning as local people put up barricades at three points in Gozaria upazila demanding uninterrupted power supply in the area.
Sources said, the agitated people put up barricades at Baluakandi, Bhaterchar and Anarpura points in Gozaria at about 11:00am to protest against frequent power outages in the area. The road barricade caused huge traffic jam on the highway for an hour.
Upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Asaduzzaman and officer-in-charge (OC) of the local police station Arju Miah said hundreds of local people first blocked the highway at Baluakandi and then at Bhaterchar and Anarpura.
Transport movement on the highway became normal at about 12:00 noon after the agitating people withdrew the barricades following assurance by the local administration to address the problem.
