Doctor couple sent to jail

The doctor couple picked up by Khalishpur police on Tuesday were sent to Khulna District Jail yesterday after shown arrested under Section 54 of Bangladesh Penal Code (BPC). Police picked up Dr M Abdullah AL Zafar and his wife Dr Umme Saima Shammi on charge of their involvement in the death of domestic help Tushti, daughter of late Abdul Khaleque of Shahajatpur upazila of Sirajganj district. Tushti, 11, was found dead on the floor in her bedroom at the house of the doctor couple located in the Mujgunni residential area under Khalishpur police station. Police recovered her body from there at 11:00 am on Tuesday on receipt of information from local people. Her body was found on the floor of the room where she used to sleep, said SI Rezaul Karim who has been made the new investigation officer (IO) in the case. The next step would be taken on the basis of the findings in autopsy report, said OC Shahabuddin Azad of Khalishpur police station. SI Debabrata who made the inquest report at the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue said he had seen a few marks of injury in her body. Abdullah, Sharif and Faisal, next door neighbours of the doctors, said they were among many others who had heard the girl screaming for help on Monday midnight. But we could not enter the house as its two collapsible gates were under lock and key, they said.
