BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, along with wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman, paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna this evening.

After holding a meeting with the chief adviser, the family left Jamuna at 9:11pm, BNP Media Cell said.

Earlier, at 7:26pm, the BNP chairman and his family arrived at Jamuna.

According to the chief adviser’s press wing, during the meeting, Tarique and his family members spent over an hour with Prof Yunus and his daughter Deena Yunus.

Members of the two families exchanged pleasantries with one another.

However, journalists were not allowed in front of Jamuna and were asked to stay on the opposite side of the road near the Ramna Park gate, as security measures in the area were tightened.

Tarique and Prof Yunus last held a one-on-one meeting in London last year.

After spending 17 years in exile in the United Kingdom, Tarique returned to Bangladesh on December 25. Upon landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, he spoke with Prof Yunus on phone from the VIP lounge, thanking him for the steps taken by the interim government to ensure security for him and his family.

The two were also briefly seen together on December 31 during the namaz-e-janaza of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia on the parliament premises.

Khaleda Zia passed away on December 30, leaving the position of BNP chairperson vacant. On January 9, Tarique Rahman was made the new chairman of the party.
