National Citizen Party (NCP) signed the July National Charter this evening.

NCP Convener Nahid Islam completed the signing around 7:00 pm at the Chief Adviser’s residence, Jamuna, as part of a six-member delegation.

The team included the party's Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, Joint Conveners Sarwar Tushar, Monira Sharmin, Javed Rasin, and Joint Member Secretary Zahirul Islam Musa.

The signing follows the February 12 referendum, held alongside the 13th parliamentary election, in which “yes” secured more than double the votes cast for “no,” clearing the way for structural state reforms under the charter.

The NCP, formed by leaders of the July uprising, had initially refused to sign last October when Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and other political parties endorsed the charter at the Jatiya Sangsad’s south plaza.

At the time, NCP demanded amendments to the draft, an official order from the chief adviser, and nullification of dissent notes if the referendum favoured the charter. The party also called for reforms to be implemented by the elected parliament and for the amended constitution to be named the “Constitution of Bangladesh, 2026.”
