Tea'ing up

The tradition of high tea took its roots before tea was even popularised in Britain. King Charles the II brought the tradition to England 22 years after it was already a firm favourite in France. Him and his Portuguese wife began a trend that became as ingrained in British tradition as football derbies.

The rest of the history of tea, from being a novelty item to becoming a part of the British culture is a story often told and explored. But what about the thriving love for tea that is part and parcel of Bangladeshi life? Every city, village and neighbourhood boasts their own personal favourite tea stall. Over the years the fascination with tea has grown and Sylhet isn't the only place to come with their own style of drinking tea.

From Ovaltine tea to ginger tea, Bangladesh's love affair with tea continues to grow. Flip to the next page for an in-depth look into the tea scene.
