A COAT TO COCOON YOU IN!

Winter is coming folks, and it's coming faster than we thought it would! That could only mean one thing: shopping for trendy winterwear.

This is the only time of the year when we Dhakaiites can indulge our sartorial fancies to the fullest as throughout the rest of the year we are huffing and puffing with heat and humidity! It is probably the most pleasant time when the air is crisp and cool, lending an air of cheer and mirth to our moods.

Coats of all manners are wonderful to keep the cold at bay in a stylish, sophisticated manner. Much has been said about women wrapping themselves in an aura of mystery and seduction, all hidden under that elegant layer of the overcoat.

And need we state the obvious that men look cool, super sharp and dapper in their beige trenches and black woolies?

There is a recent air of experimentation in an otherwise sleepy world of Dhaka fashion, which is nothing short of a blessing if you want to add some major pizzazz to your winter wardrobe.

In terms of silhouette, bias cut is not only relegated to dresses alone but has also been adapted into coats which make them look easygoing and chic. Long, trench styles are still going strong, as are the mid-length ones.

The classic pea coat is perfect for those in-between days when you want something light and simple. Embrace volume and cocoon yourself in, well, a cocoon coat! Lusciously soft and roomy, a cocoon is best for those cold nights when you want to snuggle in with a cup of hot chocolate but must oblige to your social commitments.

Keep an eye out for coats with fur lining as they are very hot right now.  Embellished duster coats in slightly thick materials are very stylish and complement a saree beautifully. For materials look for soft, light wool, cashmere and mixed fabrics.

Unexpected colors such as pink, green and gold are trending, alongside the usual suspects like black, brown and white. For men coats with a little bit of embellishment is not considered a faux pas anymore. The cut is all important, which can range from the classic A-line to fitted to pea coats.
