Oscars 2026: Michael B Jordan wins Best Actor, gets standing ovation
Michael B Jordan has added another major milestone to his career by winning the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards for his performance in "Sinners". The actor received a strong response from the audience as his name was announced, marking one of the most talked-about moments of the night.
In the film, Jordan takes on the challenging task of portraying twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, each with distinctly different personalities. Smoke is depicted as composed and responsible, while Stack is more impulsive and unpredictable. The supernatural drama blends elements of vampire horror with deeper social commentary, making the role both complex and demanding.
Michael B. Jordan began his acceptance speech by acknowledging and greeting his family members, who were present in the audience during the ceremony.
He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the film’s director, Ryan Coogler, saying he felt privileged to work alongside him. Jordan praised Coogler for trusting him with the role and for giving him the opportunity and creative freedom to fully showcase his abilities on screen.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the project marks the third collaboration between the filmmaker and Jordan. The story follows the twin brothers as they return to Mississippi after working for notorious gangster Al Capone in Chicago. Hoping to start a new chapter by opening a juke joint in their hometown, their plans soon unravel as they confront a sinister and mysterious force.
Jordan’s performance has been widely praised for the way he differentiates the two characters. Through subtle changes in voice, body language, and mannerisms, he gives each brother a distinct identity on screen, creating a compelling dynamic between the pair.
Born in California and raised in New Jersey, Jordan first rose to prominence with his critically acclaimed performance in Fruitvale Station. He later gained global recognition as Donnie Creed in the boxing drama series Creed, a spin-off from the iconic Rocky franchise. Jordan not only starred in the films but also made his directorial debut with Creed III.
The actor is also widely known for playing the Marvel villain Killmonger in Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, roles that further cemented his reputation as one of Hollywood’s leading stars.
This awards season has been particularly successful for Jordan. Prior to the Oscars, he received significant recognition on the awards circuit, including a Best Actor win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Despite the strong competition, his Oscar victory ultimately stood out as one of the most significant achievements of the night.
The other nominees in the Best Actor category included Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, and Brazilian actor Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent. Jordan’s win, however, ultimately highlighted a defining moment in his evolving career.
