First whistle of ‘Pressure Cooker’ blows away minds
In recent years, audiences expect at least one new release from Raihan Rafi every Eid, making his upcoming projects a topic of keen interest.
This Eid ul‑Fitr, Rafi is set to bring a new film titled “Pressure Cooker”. Produced jointly by Impress Telefilm and Kanon Films, the film centres on four female characters rather than a traditional male lead. The cast includes Shobnom Bubly, Nazifa Tushi, Snigdha Chowdhury and Mariay Shanto.
The one-and-a-half-minute preview of the film was released yesterday evening. Rather than calling it a teaser, the filmmaker described it as the film’s “First Whistle”. Sharing the video on social media, the caption read: “A silent pressure is building towards an explosion… once the lid lifts, the whistle will blow.”
The caption further hinted at the film’s intense tone: “Is the pressure just right? Because something dangerous is cooking inside this cooker… Raihan Rafi’s “Pressure Cooker”, coming this Eid al-Fitr to a cinema near you.”
The preview introduces the four female protagonists while also featuring several acclaimed actors, including Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Misha Sawdagor, Azizul Hakim and Saberi Alam.
Throughout the video, the voice of Chanchal Chowdhury can be heard in the background. Between dialogues, he recites lines from the well-known poem “Moumachhi, Moumachhi”, adding a layer of intrigue to the teaser’s atmosphere.
The film had already sparked discussion last month when its poster was unveiled, prominently featuring the four female leads and signalling that women would be at the centre of the story.
According to the director, “Pressure Cooker” will explore the pressures of urban life in Dhaka, highlighting the social conflicts and personal struggles faced by four women. As Rafi puts it, “This city of Dhaka is essentially a pressure cooker for women. If their cries cannot be contained, the whistle inevitably blows.”
Since the release of the “First Whistle”, curiosity surrounding the film has grown among audiences ahead of its anticipated Eid release.
