Fans of classic Bangla cinema will have the opportunity to watch “Tomake Chai” on the big screen free of charge later this month.

The special screening will be held on May 21 at 6:00pm at the auditorium of Bangladesh Film Archive in Agargaon, Dhaka, as part of the institution’s regular weekly film screening programme.

According to the Film Archive authorities, the initiative aims to introduce timeless Bangla films to a new generation of viewers while preserving the country’s cinematic heritage. The archive regularly hosts screenings of classic, rare and popular films at its modern projection hall, with audiences allowed to attend free of cost.

Directed by Matin Rahman, “Tomake Chai” was released in 1996 and became one of the most celebrated romantic films of the decade.

The film stars legendary actor Salman Shah opposite Shabnur, whose on-screen pairing remains one of the most beloved in Bangladeshi cinema. Veteran actresses Anwara and Reena Khan also played key roles in the film.

Following its release, the movie gained widespread popularity and is still regarded as one of the defining romantic dramas of 1990s Bangla cinema.
