Founded in 1975, Chattogram-based theatre troupe Gonayon Natyosomproday has completed 50 years of its journey. To mark the golden jubilee, the troupe will host a seven-day theatre festival titled Gonayon Natyoutshob, beginning on October 10 at the District Shilpakala Academy in Chattogram.

This year’s festival is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to celebrate major religious and cultural occasions.

Alongside their performance, the troupe will also take part in a series of workshops designed to foster cultural exchange, dialogue, and collaboration among emerging Asian artists, creating opportunities for new creative connections.

The story draws from the Sufi philosopher’s reflections on death, his burial wishes made at the request of Konya’s ruler, Muinuddin Shah Parwana, and the epitaphs written to mourn him.

For the first time, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is hosting the two-day “Sharadiya Cultural Festival 2025,” which begins today (September 30) and will continue through Wednesday (October 1).

Theatre troupe Charanik presents its fifth production, “Ishwar Tumi Kothay”, written and directed by Jewel Kabir. The one-hour-ten-minute performance, featuring Safia Khandakar Rekha in a stark single-actor role, opens at 7pm on September 26. Organisers note the play has already been staged 14 times at other venues.

The performances that follow will include Shyama Sangeet, devotional songs, patriotic numbers, and contemporary songs. Solo performers scheduled to appear include Anima Rai, Deblina Sur Dola, Rituraj and Sinthi Saha.

The Jagannath Hall Union organised a cultural programme to celebrate Mahalaya, the auspicious occasion that marks the arrival of Goddess Durga. Solaiman (1953–2001) is widely regarded as a central figure in Bangladesh’s modern theatre movement. Charuneedam Theatre, the Dhaka troupe that began its journey in 2007, celebrates its 18th anniversary with an ambitious triple bill: the company will stage the 100th performances of three plays — “Arshola”, “Nana Ronger Din” and “Sharater Megh” — on Monday evening at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
