Ella Langley’s ‘Choosin’ Texas’ breaks Mariah Carey’s Billboard record

Country singer Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” has made Billboard history, becoming the longest-running No 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by a single song.

The track has now spent 23 weeks at No 1, surpassing Mariah Carey’s holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, which previously held the record with 22 weeks at the top.

However, Carey’s 1994 hit could challenge the record again during the Christmas season, when it traditionally returns to the top of the chart. Depending on how long “Choosin’ Texas” remains at No 1 before December, Langley’s record could either extend further or face renewed competition.

The song’s continued success comes despite its lengthy chart run. “Choosin’ Texas” has spent 48 weeks on the Hot 100, with nearly half of those weeks at the top position. While its streaming numbers declined slightly this week, increased radio play has helped maintain its momentum.

The song recorded 21.8 million official streams this week, down 9% from the previous week, while its radio airplay audience impressions rose 2% to 58.3 million. It remains No 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs and Digital Songs charts and climbed to No 2 on the Radio Songs chart.

Langley’s album “Dandelion” has also performed strongly, returning to No 1 on the Billboard 200 chart last week before dropping to No 2 this week following Jhene Aiko’s album debut.

The singer is also expected to have a major awards season ahead. Grammy nominations will be announced on November 16, while the CMA Awards will take place on November 18, where Langley leads the nominations with nine nods.

Country music continues to dominate the Hot 100, with Stella Lefty’s “Boston” at No 2 and Morgan Wallen’s “Been by Now” at No 3.

The rest of the top 10 includes Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” at No 4, Tame Impala and Jennie’s “Dracula” at No 5, Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” at No 6, Karol G’s “Bby Wow” at No 7, Olivia Dean’s “So Easy (to Fall in Love)” and “Man I Need” at Nos 8 and 9, and Langley’s second hit “Be Her” at No 10.
