‘If we all stand by him, he is not alone’: Chanchal Chowdhury urges support for Rifat
Actor and poet Rifat Chowdhury has been moved to a cabin at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he is receiving treatment for illness. Rifat confirmed the development of his treatment to the media on Tuesday.
“I was moved to a cabin last night. I am now on bed rest. After all the tests are completed, the doctors will review my file and begin my treatment,” he said.
Meanwhile, actor Chanchal Chowdhury has called on people from the cultural community and the wider public to support Rifat’s treatment.
In a Facebook post, Chanchal said he had been seeing reports on social media about Rifat’s illness and treatment in hospital. “Due to financial difficulties, he is unable to receive proper treatment,” Chanchal wrote.
He urged Rifat’s acquaintances, fans, colleagues and organisations in the television and film industries to come forward and help. “I personally request and urge everyone concerned: let us stand by him according to our means,” he wrote.
“If we all stand by him, he is not alone,” Chanchal added.
He also called on the government to take steps to ensure proper treatment for the actor. “None of us knows when a crisis may come into our lives,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Medical College Hospital doctor and poet Amitabh Aranya has said that Rifat needs financial assistance for his treatment.
